NASA Monitoring System

NASA scientists have developed a regional visualisation and monitoring system for Central America and the southern Mexican states designed to make NASA Earth observations and predictions freely and readily accessible to anyone with an internet connection. The system’s Spanish acronym is SERVIR, which means 'to serve' and it features a Web-based data archive of maps and satellite imagery, decision-support tools and interactive visualisation capabilities. NASA devised the system in partnership with several other organisations, among them the US Agency for International Development, the World Bank and the Central American Commission for Environment and Development. Scientific and technical collaborators include the University of Alabama, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the University of Arkansas, and Science Systems and Applications Inc, Maryland. The SERVIR Center is housed at the Panamanian City of Knowledge, an international consortium of health, science and academic organisations including UNESCO, the World Food Program, numerous universities and research institutes.
