Surveyor Killed over Disputed Land

A surveyor was killed and two people needed to be treated for gunshot wounds after a fight over the ownership of Ng'ati farm in Maella Naivasha. The deceased, a middle-aged man was killed by a gang of armed Maasai morans, who entered the farm in an attempt to stop the sub-division of the land. Armed security personnel were deployed in the area to try and quell the skirmishes and pursue the killers said to have hailed from the neighbouring Narok County.

Trouble started when the morans moved in to repulse some surveyors hired to subdivide the land. A rival group was claiming ownership of the land and had hired the surveyors to carry out the subdivision.
According to the farm chairman Mr Josephat Karanja, the attackers made away with the survey equipments worth over Sh2million after attacking the crew. He told that the attackers came from the neighboring district and used arrows. They also hacked one of the surveyors to death before police arrived. He added that the attack had raised fear and tension in the area where clashes over the piece of land have left over 100 people dead and property worth thousand of shillings destroyed.
