Topcon to Showcase Innovations at GEO Business

Topcon GB & Ireland will be demonstrating its range of new technology designed to save time and create efficiencies at this year’s GEO Business at the Business Design Centre in London, UK, held from 24-25 May. The Falcon 8 is Topcon’s 8 rotary-wing unmanned aerial system (UAS) and has been created to meet the challenges professionals face when working on small-scale sites and in tough environments. The UAS can take off and land in almost any location and is fully operational in extreme weather conditions. It also offers fully automated flight routes making it easy to deploy and operate, thus saving survey team members time on site.

Visitors to stand M1 will have the opportunity to try out a Falcon 8 simulator, to see for themselves how easy it is to use the UAS.

Robotic Total Station

Topcon’s recently launched DS-200i robotic total station, which is now compatible with the new Autodesk BIM 360 Layout app for the Apple iPad, will also be on the stand. The DS-200i can be connected to the BIM 360 app with a built-in wireless WLAN, allowing contractors instant access to precision distance measurements while on site.

Workshops

Topcon team members will be hosting a number of workshops throughout the two day event. On Tuesday 24 May in Room 3, Nick Russill – owner of TerraDat, a partner of Topcon - will be presenting: Terrestrial Laser Scanning and Photogrammetry. The talk will explore the use of terrestrial laser scanning in BIM and forensics, as well as coastal and structural monitoring.

Commercial UAS for Construction and Survey will take place on Wednesday 25 May in Room 3 and will be a presentation by Mat Kellett – mobile mapping, UAS & OEM sales manager at Topcon. The workshop will look at the latest regulations relating to UASs, as well as the effect the technology is having on data capture for construction and infrastructure projects.

Now in its third year, GEO Business is already a key event in the European geospatial calendar. More than 3,000 visitors from around the globe are expected to attend, including experts and key decision makers in the geotechnical sector.

Transformation

Speaking about the show, David Bennett – business manager at Topcon GB & Ireland – stated the geospatial industry is undergoing a transformation at the moment. BIM is changing the way geospatial specialists feed information into plans for construction and infrastructure projects, while new technology is not just providing us with more accurate data than ever before, but allowing us to access and analyse that information on site.
