Universal Map Database

RMSI (CA, USA), a publisher and distributor of geographic information for the United States, has developed Universal Map: an exhaustive carto-graphy geo-database covering entire North America. The project, demanding technical expertise and the integration of various GIS software platforms, involved developing a very large amount of spatial data with many data layers, requiring automation and customisation of processes to meet timelines and maintain accuracy levels. It involved multiple-step processing of inputs received from the client, such as topology cleaning, attribute data linking, edge matching, etc. Data from more than 1,500 sources was cleaned and organised into approximately one hundred data layers. Universal Map received a versatile, cartography-enabled geo-database that can be re-packaged as wall/fold/flip maps, regional map products and country map products.
