Spotscale Launches Spot on Demand

Spotscale has been further developing drone capture, 3D processing software and visualisation for four years in order to get the best and most visually correct models possible. In view of the wider availability of professional drone operators as well as maturing legislation in many countries today, the company has now decided that the time is ripe to offer these kinds of 3D models worldwide. As a result, Spotscale has launched a product enabling anyone to order their spot in 3D anywhere in the world: Spot on Demand.

The novel web service provides access for any user to easily draw an area of interest on a map, and get an estimated price point. After the user has sent a request for this area, a formal quote is delivered. Subsequently a local drone operator, selected and certified by Spotscale, takes care of capturing the imagery that is used for 3D modelling.

Spotscale can cater a wide range of needs, such as a 3D model for urban planning, inspection, a VR application, import into CAD software and 3D printing. The service also enables customers to specify the preferred 3D format for model delivery.

Spotscale prefers to work with local drone operators with multicopters and high-resolution cameras to sweep along every street, facade and rooftop to photograph all angles possible of the area. The imagery is then processed on the Spotscale cloud, where advanced computer vision algorithms have calculated an extremely large and detailed 3D model, unique in its kind.

“We have been pushing the limits of drone capture, processing methodology and visualisation in order to build our 3D models. Capturing the source imagery needed for this kind of modelling still requires skilled drone operators. However, once drones are allowed to fly autonomously this kind of urban drone 3D mapping will explode,” says Ludvig Emgård, founder and CEO of Spotscale.
