Welcome to the ISPRS Geospatial Week 2019 in Enschede, the Netherlands

From 10 to 14 June, the campus of the University of Twente in the Netherlands will be the venue of the 4th ISPRS Geospatial Week. In this week, 13 workshops will provide excellent opportunities to discuss the latest developments in the fields of sensors, photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences. Many of the workshops are part of well-established series of workshops convened in the past. They will cover topics like unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV or ‘drone’) photogrammetry, laser scanning, spatial data quality, scene understanding, hyperspectral imaging and crowd sourcing & collaborative mapping, with applications ranging from indoor mapping and smart cities to global cryosphere and hydrosphere studies and even planetary mapping. A total of 30 working groups of the ISPRS Commissions are jointly convening these workshops and are dedicated to presenting an attractive Geospatial Week programme.

With around 280 oral presentations and 130 poster presentations, it will be a full programme too, with up to six workshops running in parallel. We are expecting 700-800 participants from all over the world, making the Geospatial Week a truly international event. Participants will be able to register for any number of days and join any of the workshops offered on those days. Besides the programme booklet, the conference app Conference4me will be available to allow delegates to browse through the entire Geospatial Week programme.

The opening keynote will be delivered by Edward Anderson of the World Bank. He will share his experience on World Bank projects dealing with various geospatial technologies such as open data for resilience, innovations in spatial planning, community mapping with UAVs, and early warning systems. Throughout the week, a further 11 keynotes will be presented covering the topics of all workshops.

On 9 June, the Sunday preceding the Geospatial Week, four tutorials will be offered to bring participants up to date with developments in deep learning, geo web services and photogrammetric workflows. For further details on the tutorials, please see the tutorial descriptions.

From 11 to 13 June and in parallel to the workshops, various companies sponsoring the Geospatial Week will inform participants on their latest products and services at the exhibition. Gold sponsors nFrames, Pix4D, IGI, Zoller+Fröhlich, and Agisoft will also give presentations in the industry sessions.

While the ISPRS Geospatial Week serves to share the latest advances in science and industry, it is equally important as a place to meet peers and socialize, discuss the past, and make plans for the future. Through its social programme with a welcome reception on the Monday, dinners on Tuesday and Thursday and the Exhibitor Reception on Wednesday, the Geospatial Week will provide ample opportunities for meetings in a pleasant informal atmosphere. Particularly recommended are the dinners at the Singraven country estate situated along the Dinkel river and the mansion De Jaargetijden in Enschede.

On behalf of the ISPRS and the University of Twente, we welcome you to Enschede, the Netherlands, for the fourth ISPRS Geospatial Week!
