Biography

Simon Ironside, a licensed cadastral and Level 1 hydrographic surveyor from Christchurch, New Zealand, works for Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand. With extensive experience in both disciplines, he is a Fellow of Survey + Spatial New Zealand and has been actively involved with the organization, including co-directing the FIG Working Week in Christchurch in 2016. Ironside has also contributed significantly to FIG, particularly within Commission 4, where he chairs several working groups, including WG 4.3 Mapping the Plastic. As co-chair of this group and a member of the FIG Climate Compass Task Force, he is deeply involved in efforts to address the global plastic waste crisis.
