Gter was founded in 2010, emerging from the world of academic research with the vision of becoming an industrial partner capable of making geographic information accessible to everyone.
The company originated from a technology transfer project between the University of Genoa and the Liguria Region (UniTI Project), which supported Gter in its early years, including integration into the city’s business incubator.
From the outset, Gter focused on leveraging open-source technologies—still in their infancy at the time—to develop software solutions, provide technical support, and deliver training to foster a more informed culture around geographic information.
Initially serving as a provider of geographic information systems, Gter quickly became a trusted technology partner for organizations seeking customized solutions.
In the early years, we operated as a consultancy, gradually expanding our presence across Italy. It was a phase of “training on the job,” invaluable for understanding the market, yet also challenging, with moments that tested the scalability of our company.
By 2015, we made a decisive move toward becoming a reference point in the satellite positioning sector and downstream services based on GNSS systems.
Our first funded development project provided the initial push, bringing motivation and momentum. By 2017, a second major project gave us confidence and enabled team expansion, growing from the 4 core members who formed our consistent foundation in the early years. From that point forward, our journey has been marked by growth, with achievements on both national and international levels.
Today, Gter stands as one of the most significant players in the development of Open Source GIS solutions in Italy.
