55th Photogrammetric Week in Stuttgart

In 1909 the renowned Photogrammetric Week was initiated by Carl Pulfrich as a ‘Vacation Course in Photogrammetry’, and it has been held at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, since 1973. Nowadays, the Photogrammetric Week Series enjoys international recognition as an upgrading seminar and a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience, and it consistently attracts more than 500 participants from more than 50 countries. This year's event is being held from 7-11 September.

The Photogrammetric Week Series has gained great reputation among geomatics professionals – the single-track scientific programme in the mornings is conducted by internationally recognised keynote and invited speakers only, the well-selected OpenPhowo Partners demonstrate their latest technologies in photogrammetry, remote sensing and geoinformatics in the afternoons. Its proceedings have been well documented since 1975 on the web (www.ifp.uni-stuttgart.de/phowo/index.en.html) and represent one of the best set of paper collections in the field of photogrammetry and related geospatial sciences.

This year the lectures by experts from academia in Germany and abroad will be focusing on “Excellence in Photogrammetry, Computer Science and Geoinformatics”. It is one of the best programmes of the PhoWo series, and will deal with the following topics:

•    Remotely Sensed Data Acquisition – An Update
•    Advanced Modelling in Photogrammetry, Computer Vision and Computer Graphics
•    Excellence in Geoinformatics

Dieter Fritsch

The presentations will be in English. Sufficient time will be allocated for discussions. The scientific programme and the demonstrations will be supplemented by fringe events in the evenings to  offer sufficient opportunity for personal contacts and to renew friendships.

A special event is embedded in this year’s conference – the “Open Farewell of Dieter Fritsch”. He will officially retire from being the director of the Institute for Photogrammetry at the end of September 2015, but will stay onboard for R&D research projects until the middle of 2019. All long-time friends and PhoWo participants are kindly invited to this event as well, to be held on Wednesday 9 September, at 16.00h.

In addition, a tutorial on “Excellence in Photogrammetry – From UAV Data Collection and Data Processing to Advanced 3D Modelling” will be organised by the Institute for Photogrammetry (ifp), University of Stuttgart, on Sunday 6 September 2015.
