AAMHatch Wins QLD Spatial Excellence Award

The Queensland Spatial Excellence Award for Land Development and Planning was awarded to AAMHatch on Friday, 18 July 2008. The project, "Hong Kong 3D City Models with LiDAR", was commissioned by Hong Kong's Geotechnical Engineering Office of the Civil Engineering and Development Department (GEO/CEDD). The project determined how best to apply LiDAR technology to the landslip engineering issues confronting the Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSAR).

For AAMHatch's award winning project, an Optech ALTM3100 LiDAR sensor was used to capture the data. Despite the challenges of deep urban canyons and commercial aircrafts flying through the project area every 2 minutes, the project delivered a mapping dataset 40% more accurate than the project specifications and covered three times the size of the requested area. This LiDAR sensor and the survey aircraft are now based in Kuala Lumpur.
