Aerialtronics UAS Carries Blackmagic Micro Camera

Aerialtronics’ Altura Zenith UAS reportedly caused quite a stir when it appeared at the NAB Show – on a giant poster outside the Las Vegas Convention Center carrying Blackmagic’s Micro Super 16 Cinema Camera, the latest lightweight digital camera that can be used for UAVs. The camera, which features a Super 16 sensor and 13 stops of dynamic range and built-in RAW recording and features, is very well suited to UASs such as the Altura Zenith as it has one of the smallest camera bodies that uses professional lenses.

The Micro Cinema is a 2.57in high, 3.25in wide and 2.74in deep Super 16 digital film camera designed to deliver great HD images. The Micro Four Thirds magnesium body and lens mount allows customers to select from a range of sharp, interchangeable lenses, while the full sized HDMI output makes it easy to connect to an HD display for monitoring. The expansion port opens the camera up to a variety of power, monitoring and remote control options, particularly suited to UAVs.

Robin van de Putte, chief marketing officer at Aerialtronics, said the global shutter and compact, lightweight form lets users take maximum advantage of the aerial system capabilities in terms of flight time without compromising on the quality of the aerial footage. It's a big advantage having the Blackmagic Micro Cinema camera onboard the Altura Zenith, he added.

The Altura Zenith can be seen during demonstrations by Aerialtronics at four exhibitions in the United States and Europe in April and May, including the AUVSI Unmanned Systems 2015 trade show at the World Congress Centre in Atlanta.

Aerial solutions

Jeremy Wigmore, CEO of Aerialtronics, said they are already working with T-Mobile and Bosch Security to provide quick aerial solutions for inspection and security. This shows Aerialtronics’ versatility and commitment to developing their business in the commercial UAS market in the US, Europe and the rest of the world.

Visitors can meet the team behind the Altura Zenith at the Drone Convention in Genk, Belgium on 21 April and the three-day Infopol/Xpo112 at Kortrijk, Belgium on the same day. Aerialtronics will then join the largest global community of commercial leaders in robotics and drones at AUVSI’s Unmanned Systems 2015.
