ArcGIS 9 Military Analyst Now Available

ESRI (CA, USA) has announced the availability of ArcGIS 9 Military Analyst. ArcGIS Military Analyst maximises the use of the standard suite of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) data products by allowing direct use and rendering of NGA's vector and raster products, line of sight assessments, Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) conversion, and Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED) analysis. This extension also includes the Military Overlay Editor (MOLE), which supports MIL-STD 2525B and custom war fighting symbologies. In addition, MOLE includes a complete ArcObjects
software-based application program interface for using MOLE with ArcGIS custom applications built with ArcGIS Engine.
Enhanced tools, such as the Raster Map tool, the Vector Map tool, the DTED tool, and the Terrain tools are now based on ArcGIS catalogs. These catalogues can be personal geodatabases or ArcSDE enterprise databases. These new tools now allow users to fully implement entire raster product format, vector product format, and DTED collections seamlessly within their ArcGIS environment. New tools in ArcGIS Military Analyst include:

  • Geodesy Calculator, which allows users to specify two coordinates and generate a great circle route, a rhumb line, or a geodesic route. This tool also calculates bearing and distance and the end coordinate.
  • Geodesy tool, which allows users to create great circles and rhumb lines interactively.
  • create geodetically correct concentric ellipses at user-specified intervals anywhere on the globe.
  • Batch coordinate converter, which converts coordinates in a feature class, shapefile, or .dbf table. The batch coordinate converter can use the feature geometry or other fields to generate corresponding DD, DMS, UTM, and MGRS coordinates in the table.

ArcGIS Military Analyst requires ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo and is available at no extra cost for users with current software maintenance agreements.
