Barbara J. Ryan has started the new year by becoming the executive director of the World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC). Sanjay Kumar concluded his term as the chief executive and will continue to support WGIC as the secretary-general.
Ryan brings with her immense leadership experience in managing and advocating for greater collaboration among national and international organizations such as the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). She also serves on several boards and advisory committees at various national and international organizations such as the Jane Goodall Institute. She has been a policy advisor at WGIC since January 2019.
Commencing the new role, Barbara Ryan said: "The work that WGIC members do, in partnership with governments and others around the world, is critical for ensuring public health and safety, clean environments and strong economies, and I am honoured to step into this role. I very much look forward to continuing what Sanjay Kumar started and to further advocate on behalf of the geospatial and Earth observation community globally."
