Basetime introduces Locator Two for permanent infrastructure monitoring

Infrastructure failures rarely happen without warning, but the signals are often too subtle to detect through periodic inspections alone. Basetime is addressing this gap with the launch of Locator Two by offering infrastructure managers a system that continuously monitors structural displacements and rotations in critical assets such as railway lines, bridges and quay walls.

The need for such solutions is growing. Across Europe and beyond, ageing infrastructure and the accelerating effects of climate change are placing increasing pressure on asset owners and managers to maintain safety and reliability. Locator Two enables deviations to be detected at an early stage – well before visible damage occurs.

GNSS combined with tilt-sensing

Since 2020, Basetime's Locator One has been used in construction and infrastructure projects for temporary monitoring during execution phases. Locator Two extends this approach to permanent applications. By combining satellite positioning (GNSS) with integrated tilt-sensing, the system measures both structural displacements and changes in inclination, providing asset managers with reliable data to identify changes in good time and reduce operational risks.

The system operates autonomously on solar energy and transmits measurement data automatically to a cloud-based monitoring platform, where trends can be tracked and alerts configured when threshold values are exceeded.

From reactive inspection to predictive maintenance

Continuous monitoring enables infrastructure managers to move from reactive inspections to predictive maintenance. Rather than responding only when problems arise, managers can identify trends and anomalies earlier through continuous data streams – helping to reduce unplanned downtime and contributing to a longer asset lifespan.

With the introduction of Locator One and Locator Two, Basetime now offers two systems each developed for a specific application. Locator One is aimed at projects requiring temporary or project-based monitoring, while Locator Two is designed for permanent monitoring, supporting organizations that require long-term, structural insight into the condition of their infrastructure.

Together, the two solutions form the Basetime Locator Series – monitoring systems that translate raw measurements into actionable insights for the protection of people and critical infrastructure.

Martijn Arkesteijn, CEO of Basetime, said: "With Locator Two, we support infrastructure managers in maintaining permanent insight into their assets. Continuous monitoring makes it possible to detect structural changes at an early stage and contributes to long-term safety."
