E.H. Thompson Centenary Seminar

On the Friday 17th September University College London is to celebrate the 60th year of the department of Photogrammetry and Surveying (now called Geomatics). Combined with the centenary of the birth of Professor E.H. (Tommy) Thompson who was head of department up until 1976.

University College London has been the centre of education in geomatics since the first students in surveying graduated in 1950 from the Department of Civil and Municipal Engineering. In 1961 a separate Department of Photogrammetry and Surveying was formed. The driving force in setting up this department was Edgar Hynes Thompson, who was born 100 years ago on 13th January 1910. E.H. Thompson was professor of Photogrammetry and Surveying from 1951 to 1976.

The 100th anniversary of Thompson's birth and 60 years of Geomatics at UCL will be celebrated by a series of events on Friday 17th September.
