Esri launches Content Store for instant access to on-demand imagery

Esri has launched Content Store for ArcGIS, a new web app aimed at simplifying the acquisition and integration of commercial satellite imagery. Developed in partnership with SkyWatch, the app allows organizations to purchase high-quality imagery from providers such as Maxar, along with other leading sources. Previously, users needed to manage multiple provider portals and handle data imports manually, but the new app streamlines this process, offering a more efficient workflow.

“Content Store for ArcGIS offers a seamless, on-demand experience for accessing premium commercial imagery, right within the ArcGIS platform,” said Richard Cooke, Esri corporate director of global business development. “This new experience addresses the challenges our users have shared with us as their use of commercial imagery expands into more and more of their business or mission critical workflows. We believe this will also add significant value to the open imagery sources already available through ArcGIS Living Atlas.”

Enhancing spatial analysis

“SkyWatch is thrilled to partner with Esri to bring Content Store for ArcGIS to life,” said James Slifierz, co-founder and CEO of SkyWatch. “Our mission is to make premium geospatial data easily accessible in the broadest range of applications, and this integration with ArcGIS illustrates the power of the SkyWatch Platform. We are excited to support Esri users in enhancing their spatial analysis with high-resolution imagery, and other forms of geospatial data to follow.”

In addition to the launch partners, Esri and SkyWatch will be working together to continually add other providers to Content Store for ArcGIS, to enlarge the flexibility for users to find and acquire the content that best meets the needs of their work.

“We are proud to continue our decades-long partnership with Esri by augmenting the Maxar imagery basemaps already available through ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World,” said Paul Granito, Maxar’s general manager and senior vice president of Enterprise. “We partnered with Esri and SkyWatch to provide Content Store for ArcGIS with access to our most current, very high-resolution imagery to support users who need frictionless access to that data within ArcGIS. We look forward to empowering the geospatial community with our data to enable critical workflows and better organizational decision-making.”

While open datasets like Landsat and Sentinel are valuable, industries such as urban planning and asset risk management increasingly require higher-resolution, up-to-date satellite imagery. The Content Store for ArcGIS streamlines access by enabling users to purchase commercial imagery directly within ArcGIS, without navigating multiple portals. This seamless integration enhances the functionality of ArcGIS, complementing its rich data from the Living Atlas and other public sources.
