First StreetMapper Conference Success

The StreetMapper 2010 International Conference has been hailed a success, attracting delegates from around the world. The first international event focusing solely on mobile mapping technology, the event featured keynotes and technical presentations from organisers' 3D Laser Mapping and IGI together with user papers from the USA, China, Finland, the Netherlands and the UK. The StreetMapper User Conference also provided delegates with the perfect opportunity to meet with laser scanning specialists and network with mobile mapping professionals from around the world.

"We were delighted with the turnout at this event," commented Dr Graham Hunter, Managing Director of 3D Laser Mapping. "Delegates from around the world were attracted by the conference programme featuring real-world StreetMapper projects and their experience on the day exceeded many expectations." One delegate who attended the StreetMapper Conference commented, "I found the user presentations really interesting and the update on recent advances in mobile mapping was especially useful," while a presenter added "the entire meeting was of such great quality".

Following the success of the International StreetMapper Conference the first StreetMapper User Conference has been announced. Co-hosted with the International Lidar Mapping Forum the StreetMapper User Conference will take place on the 10th February 2011 in New Orleans, USA. Further information, including joining instructions, will be available in due course.

StreetMapper 360, which is a joint development between UK based 3D Laser Mapping and German-based guidance and navigation specialist IGI, has been specifically designed for the rapid 3D mapping of highways, runways, railways, infrastructure and buildings. Using vehicle-mounted lasers offering a 360-degree field of view StreetMapper enables high-precision mapping to a range of 300 metres, a capacity of 300,000 measurements per second per sensor and recorded accuracies in independent real world projects of better than 10 millimetres.

Travelling at speeds of up to 70km/h StreetMapper can capture every detail along the highway corridor including barriers, gulleys, overhead wires and building facades, helping surveyors to create highly accurate 3D computer models for planning, maintenance and incident management.
