Free Dragon Software for Education

Goldin-Rudahl Systems (MA, USA) has launched a project to produce a free version of its Dragon/ips Academic Edition for education in development countries. The goal is to provide RS/GIS software for use in educational organisations within lesser developed countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and other regions.

The Thailand project referred to be Mr Rudahl is known as the Open Dragon project, currently supported by King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Bangkok, Thailand. The project has already released the initial version of the internationalised remote sensing system. This system is available free upon request to schools or universities in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Selected source code and libraries for extending the software’s functionality are also available.

Open Dragon includes all functionality of the commercial Dragon Academic Edition, including the translations into Czech, French, Russian, and Thai. Vietnamese, Chinese (traditional), Indonesian, and Mongolian translations are currently under development.
