Free Live Training Seminar-Introduction to ArcSDE

A new live training seminar from ESRI Virtual Campus,
Introduction to ArcSDE, is designed for users who want to explore the features and best practices of ArcSDE. Attendees will learn about the components included with ArcSDE and how they work as well as hints and ideas that help maintain performance. The seminar will take place 19 May 2005, at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. Pacific time.

ArcSDE is a server software product used to access very large multiuser geographic databases stored in Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMSs). As an integrated part of ArcGIS, ArcSDE provides a suite of services that enhance data management performance, extend the range of data types that can be stored in an RDBMS, enable schema portability between RDBMSs, and offer configuration flexibility.

This training seminar explains some of the benefits of ArcSDE, its basic architecture, and the best practices for using the software. The presenter
will discuss:

  • ArcSDE for organisation and rapid display of spatial information
  • application server connections versus direct connections
  • types of data and how to organise it using the dbtune table

A broadband Internet connection and an ESRI global account are required to view the seminar. Creating an ESRI global account is free and only takes a
few minutes. Following the live presentation, the seminar will be archived and available for viewing at any time on the Virtual Campus Web site. More
information about this seminar, including instructions for attending and a schedule of upcoming seminars, is available at
    http://campus.esri.com/seminars.
