Fugro's geodata plays a key role in Hurricane Helene recovery

In the wake of Hurricane Helene's devastating landfall in the southeastern USA, Fugro swiftly joined recovery efforts. Partnering with McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), Fugro provided high-resolution aerial imagery for three of the hardest-hit areas: Perry and Madison in Florida’s Big Bend region, and Valdosta in Georgia.

This detailed imagery is crucial for MIS, allowing them to conduct rapid and precise damage assessments. With these insights, insurance companies can expedite claim processing, delivering much-needed financial aid to affected homeowners and businesses. Fugro's high-end imaging technology ensures timely and accurate data, streamlining the recovery process.

Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm, struck near Perry on 26 September, leaving a trail of destruction across the region. Thousands of homes and businesses were damaged, with the storm causing significant loss of life and property.

“We understand the urgency of disaster recovery and our team is dedicated to providing the necessary geospatial data to expedite the rebuilding process,” stated Denis Charland, Fugro’s service line director for Inspection and Monitoring in the Americas.

The MIS response team has started analysing the imagery to locate the areas most impacted by the hurricane, ensuring that aid is efficiently directed to where it is needed the most.
