Fugro Wins Large Contracts in USA

Fugro (The Netherlands) has won contracts to provide geotechnical investigations for storm protection enhancements in the New Orleans district and in California. These contracts represent a total value of US$50 million (€40 million) for Fugro.

Fugro Consultants, Inc. and its joint venture partners have signed a contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, District New Orleans to provide geotechnical studies and related services for the preliminary design and engineering of storm protection enhancements throughout the District. The contract value will not exceed US$100 million (€75 million) or three years in duration. Fugro’s share of the total work effort is estimated to be 40%. Geotechnical studies will focus on 350 miles (approximately 560 kilometres) of federal levees.

The joint venture, led by Fugro, is comprised of Fugro Consultants, Inc., Houston, TX; Fuller, Mossbarger, Scott & May, Lexington, KY; Eustis Engineering Company, New Orleans, LA and Burns, Cooley, Dennis, Inc. (BCD), Ridgeland, MS.

Fugro Consultants, Inc. is also involved in the New Orleans contract for Arcadis, as one of the subcontractors for geotechnical investigations.

Fugro West, Inc. also starts geotechnical exploration, testing and analysis on levees that protect urban communities in California against flooding. Fugro is part of a team that was awarded a contract with the California Department of Water Resources (DWR). The investigation focuses on more than 300 miles (well over 500 kilometres) of urban levees.

Fugro’s long-standing experience in engineering for flood protection work in Holland plays an important role in addressing innovative approaches to above mentioned projects.
