Geo Week 2026 highlights reality capture’s strategic role
The Reality Capture Network (RCN) will host a series of sessions at Geo Week 2026, taking place from 16-18 February in Denver, Colorado, illustrating how reality capture has matured from a straightforward data collection method into a strategic capability reshaping planning, construction and long-term asset management across industries.
Organized by the Reality Capture Network – a platform aimed at empowering professionals in the built environment – the sessions will explore how reality capture technologies support the full lifecycle of both built and natural environments. Topics will range from subsurface mapping to the documentation of archaeological sites hidden beneath dense rainforest canopies, demonstrating how captured data progresses from initial acquisition through verification, integration and long-term reuse.
A central theme running throughout the programme is integration. Beyond the technical challenge of combining sensors, discussions will focus on aligning data across project phases, disciplines and decision-making processes. The emphasis is shifting from a technology-led question – what a tool can capture – to a broader strategic consideration: how data can deliver sustained value over time.
From tools to long-term value
The programme spans a wide range of applications, including major infrastructure projects, facility operations, archaeology, AI-driven analysis and immersive XR environments. Rather than spotlighting a single technology or sector, the sessions collectively present reality capture as a maturing field shaped as much by standardization, operational frameworks and organizational needs as by technological innovation.
Together, the RCN sessions will position reality capture as a discipline where success increasingly depends on how effectively organizations integrate tools, validate results, structure workflows and design systems that keep data relevant long after the initial project is completed.
