GEOINT Symposium Postponed Due to US Government Shutdown

Despite many efforts to keep an important national geospatial conference on the calendar amid the government shutdown, a recent U.S. House vote to let most defence department personnel return to work also forbids government speakers and customers from attending such events. The U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) said the 10th Annual GEOINT Symposium, previously scheduled for from 13 to 16 October in Tampa, FL, has been postponed until the spring.

USGIF is operating under the significant constraints of a government shutdown, the organisation wrote in a letter to the nearly 4,000 conference registrants and 265 defence industry exhibitors.

When the government shut down on 1 October, USGIF sent out an email to announce the event, would go on regardless of the shutdown. On Wednesday 9 October, the organisation said postponing the event until the spring is a necessity given slim availability at the Tampa Convention Center and surrounding hotels.

The organisation stated they regretfully understand this may put their event closer to or overlapping with some other events.
