Getac targets field professionals with new AI-ready rugged tablet
For surveying firms and GIS-driven organizations looking to close the gap between office and field productivity, Getac has added a new device to its rugged computing lineup: the G140 tablet.
The recently announced G140 is a fully rugged 14-inch tablet built around AMD's latest AI-capable processors and certified as a Copilot+ PC – Microsoft's designation for devices capable of running advanced AI workloads locally. The launch reflects a broader industry push to bring meaningful computing power out of the office and into the environments where data is actually collected.
For field-heavy operations, the proposition is straightforward: less shuttling of data back to base, and more capacity to process, analyse and act on information in real time. That shift carries particular relevance for organizations running complex geospatial data workflows, where the ability to work with large datasets on-site can meaningfully reduce turnaround times and operational costs.
Field deployment circumstances
The device is built to withstand the conditions typical of field deployment – certified to military durability standards, rated for extreme temperatures, and light enough at under 1.8kg to remain practical over a full working day. Connectivity options extend to 5G, addressing one of the more persistent pain points for remote field operations.
With the G140, Getac also broadens its offering for IT departments seeking to standardize hardware across mixed technology environments, adding an AMD-based option alongside its existing Intel-powered devices.
