Hexagon focuses on autonomy with strategic Septentrio acquisition
Hexagon has reached an agreement to acquire Septentrio, a leading OEM provider of GNSS technologies. This acquisition marks a significant step in expanding the market reach of resilient assured positioning solutions while enhancing the focus on innovation.
Septentrio's advanced GNSS platform will become an integral part of Hexagon’s strategy to deliver high-end solutions across diverse markets and applications. The integration will strengthen Hexagon’s comprehensive positioning portfolio, which includes sensor fusion, anti-jamming, correction services and perception technologies. Hexagon anticipates greater accessibility to high-accuracy, high-performance technology with low size, weight and power (SWaP) characteristics, a critical factor for advancing autonomous systems in existing markets and addressing the needs of high-growth segments such as robotics, autonomy and uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs or 'drones').
Septentrio, recognized for its innovation and customer-focused approach, will deepen its collaboration with Hexagon. Together, they will continue delivering cutting-edge GNSS technology and solutions to a broad network of industry-leading OEM partners, further solidifying their commitment to market leadership.
Towards full autonomy
"The combination of Hexagon and Septentrio will transform the positioning industry across existing and new markets, setting new standards for the accuracy, resilience and scalability of positioning technologies, necessary to support and accelerate the journey towards full autonomy," commented Norbert Hanke, interim president and CEO of Hexagon.
Headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, Septentrio employs approximately 150 people and generated estimated revenues exceeding €50 million in 2024, with strong growth rates and margins aligned with the Hexagon Group. Following the completion of the transaction, Septentrio will be reported within Hexagon's Autonomous Solutions division. The acquisition remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and is expected to be finalized in the first half of this year.
