John Kimmance Appointed as New MD of Ordnance Survey National Mapping Services

Ordnance Survey has appointed John Kimmance as Managing Director of the National Mapping Services business unit. He will lead a team tasked with providing world-leading location data and expertise to customers across Great Britain, including public sector customers, businesses and developers.

John Kimmance will drive the delivery of the recently launched Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSGA), ensuring that location data continues to support critical infrastructure and services, underpins decision-making, drives efficiencies and delivers both societal and economic benefits.

Through the PSGA, John will lead the National Mapping Services team to create greater opportunities for the public sector and commercial customers through new data, improved access to OS data and new freedoms to share.

The importance of location

Steve Blair, CEO at Ordnance Survey, said: "The board of OS is delighted that we have appointed John Kimmance as MD of National Mapping Services. John brings strong leadership, exceptional knowledge of the public sector and a deep understanding of how we can help customers across Great Britain to see a better place with trusted and authoritative OS data and expertise."

Kimmance moved into the MD role on 8 July, bringing extensive experience in serving the public sector through a number of senior roles in Ordnance Survey. His most recent role was Director of Government and Partner Engagement working closely with public sector customers and OS's partners to ensure that government and commercial markets get maximum benefit from OS data and expertise. John also led the OS team in securing the new Public Sector Geospatial Agreement which was launched in April 2020.

John Kimmance, MD of OS National Mapping Services, said: "I am extremely proud and thrilled to be taking up the role as MD. It is an exciting time for the geospatial sector with the new PSGA, launch of the UK Geospatial Data Strategy and OS's ambitious strategy. The recognition of the importance of location has never been as high.

"I am looking forward to leading the National Mapping Services team, ensuring that OS continues to be essential to our customers; empowering the nation through world-leading expertise."

John Kimmance is a Board member of GeoPlace and until recently was a non-executive director on the Met Office Board. He holds a Geology Degree from UCL, an MBA from Exeter University and the Financial Times Non-Executive Director Diploma.
