Keynote Speakers for ILSC 2011

Optech announces the keynote speakers for its Innovative Lidar Solutions Conference, ILSC 2011. At the conference, to be held 31st May to 3rd June 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Toronto, the keynote speakers will bring their perspectives to illuminate critical issues affecting today\'s end-user of Lidar technology.

Dr. Gerald Bawden: As a research geophysicist with the US Geological Survey, Dr. Bawden views Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) as a rapidly evolving technology that allows researchers from multiple disciplines to address questions unanswerable only five years ago. He will discuss geodetic science applications of TLS spanning the broad range of earth science.

Mr. Paul DiGiacobbe : Advanced 3D design techniques used in design-build have uncovered the need for complete immersive as-built data. By demonstrating the results from a few real-world projects, Mr. DiGiacobbe, Associate Vice President and National Data Acquisition Manager at HNTB, will show how mobile lidar is answering that need.

Dr. Raymond Hoff: A professor of Physics at the University of Maryland, and director of the Joint Center for Earth Systems Technology and the Goddard Earth Sciences and Technology Center, Dr. Hoff will present his thoughts on how to match the needs of science with the new capacities found in today's laser sensors.

Professor Teng-To Yu: A teacher of Resources Engineering at the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, Professor Yu has an extensive background in geo-resources, geoinformatics and geophysics. His presentation will include a discussion of the state of airborne lidar and photogrammetric image collection in the Taiwanese and Chinese markets. His perspectives on data collection methodology, data deliverables and overall challenges provide an interesting comparison to North American and European practices.

Mr. Karl Heidemann : Having studied Geography at UNC-Greensboro and the University of South Carolina, Mr. Heidemann is a physical scientist at USGS EROS, where he manages IT infrastructure and software and leads the development of lidar standards and specifications. He will talk about developing lidar standards and guidelines.
