Leica Geosystems Announces Acquisition of FieldDesigner

Leica Geosystems (Switerland) has announced the acquisition of the assets and intellectual property of FieldDesigner Inc. of Montreal, Canada, for an undisclosed cash amount. FieldDesigner provides CAD-based software solutions for field data acquisition in a broad array of market segments ranging from surveying to engineering and construction to architecture.

“The acquisition and visualisation of GIS and survey data directly in the field will become more and more important as will providing an integrated logical and physical data flow from the field into the office. Delivering intelligence into the field will help improve productivity throughout the value chain,” said Clement Woon, president of the Geosystems division. “Leica Geosystems already offers its MobileMatriX software as a field solution for GIS users and surveyors based on the ArcGIS platform. The CAD-based FieldDesigner product range will complement and enhance our mobile solutions offering.”
