Leica Geosystems unlocks real-time data streaming for terrestrial laser scanning with the RTC series
Setting new benchmarks in accuracy, speed and field-to-office connectivity, Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, has launched the Leica RTC series. This is a ground-up redesign of its terrestrial laser scanning lineup comprising three models: the RTC300, RTC500, and RTC700. Consolidating two longstanding product families, the release marks the most significant overhaul to the company's scanning portfolio in recent memory.
The new series succeeds both the Leica RTC360/LT and the ScanStation P30/P40/P50 lines, distilling the speed and versatility of the former with the robustness and superior accuracy of the latter into a single unified platform. According to the company, the scanners capture data 35% more accurately than the nearest competing product on the market.
One platform, three instruments
Each model in the series is purpose-tuned for a different scale of work. The RTC300 is built for building construction and fast-moving project environments, combining trusted scanning accuracy with a clear path toward scalable, connected operations. The RTC500 steps up the capability envelope, offering balanced performance across surveying, construction, public safety and infrastructure teams that need to adapt as conditions change on site. The RTC700 is engineered for the most demanding assignments: large-scale infrastructure, industrial plant and complex surveying environments where maximum range, accuracy, and ultra-fast data capture are non-negotiable.
Crucially, all three models share the same underlying platform. As project scope grows, teams can move to a higher performance tier without replacing their existing equipment, a significant consideration for organizations running long-term infrastructure or industrial programmes.
Practical benefits
Beyond the hardware improvements, Leica Geosystems is positioning the RTC series as a complete workflow platform. A new capability called Livelink, integrated into Leica Cyclone FIELD 360, streams scan data directly to Hexagon GeoCloud as it is captured in the field. Multiple scanners can feed simultaneously into a single shared project in real time, allowing office-based teams to begin processing data and producing deliverables before the field crew has even finished scanning.
The practical benefit is a meaningful reduction in costly rework. Field teams can verify full site coverage before leaving, closing the gap between data capture and quality assurance that has historically forced return visits. As project schedules compress and data volumes grow, geospatial teams face increasing pressure to deliver reliable, decision-ready information while work is still in progress. Livelink is explicitly designed to meet that demand.
