Lifetime Achievement Award for Rajesh Mathur

The India Geospatial Forum was held from 7th to 9th February 2012 in Gurgaon, India. During this event, Mr. Rajesh C. Mathur, vice chairman, Esri India, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Mr. M. Shashidhar Reddy, vice chairman, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Mr. Mathur was acknowledged for his work within the geospatial industry in India for over two decades.

Mr Mathur has been instrumental in helping NIIT GIS attain a leadership position, contributing to enabling many Mission Mode Programmes. Mr. Rajesh Mathur replied that this award was recognition of the work done by the Esri India team in past 15+ years. He characterised himself as a facilitator, since it was the team that helped Esri to achieve its leading position as the preferred platform for GIS users in India.

The conference was reported as good, although participation in this location apparently suffered compared to the Hyderabad conference. The exhibition area was interesting, with companies such as GE participating.

Mr. Mathur is an electrical engineer from IIT Delhi. He has attended a general management programme conducted by Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, USA. Mr. Mathur has been associated with the IT industry both in India and overseas for more than 30 years. He has handled assignments in General Management, Marketing, Corporate Planning and International Operations. Prior to his current assignment, he has worked with Wipro, IDM and DCM Data Systems in India and USA.

As the head of NIIT GIS, Mr. Mathur is spearheading the growth of GIS deployment in India. He is actively involved with various professional bodies associated with the Indian GIS industry. He is currently Co-Chair of FICCI task force on Geospatial Technologies and Sr. Vice President of Geospatial Industry Association of India (AGI). He is also former President of Indian Society of Geomatics.
