Looking ahead to CAAD Futures 2023 INTERCONNECTIONS: Co-computing beyond Boundaries

Architectural design is founded on interconnections across different knowledge domains and scales. CAAF Future 2023 reflects on the role of computation to interconnect in and for architectural design. CAAD Futures is a biannual international conference on Computer Aided Architectural Design. CAAD Futures 2023 is going to be held (in a hybrid format) at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment in TU Delft, Delft, the Netherlands from 5-7 July 2023.

Interconnections: Across Knowledge Domains, Across Scales

Datasets are becoming an increasingly powerful resource for the scientific understanding of the current and future built environment and its interconnections. Interdisciplinary boundaries are diminished on the shared ground of data. Datasets facilitate continuity across scales, from the territorial and urban scales to the scales of building components, materials and beyond.

In line with this, CAAD Futures 2023 reflects on the role of computation to interconnect in and for architectural design and welcomes thematic areas such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), Smart Buildings and Cities & IoT, Spatial Decision Support System, 3D Visualisation on Urban Scale, Data Infrastructures and Databases, Massive Spatial Data Storage and Processing and Multi-Disiciplinary Multi-objective Optimization for Design.

The event is organized in three main streams:

  • Interconnections across Knowledge Domains;
  • Interconnections across Scales;
  • Interconnections across Questions.

Two calls are open: a call for co-creation and a call for papers. The conference welcomes co-creation of content to be discussed and further developed at the conference, regarding 'research urgencies' (emergent research priorities) relevant to the conference’s theme. It also welcomes paper submissions on thematic areas relevant to the conference’s theme.

The rapidly approaching submission deadline for the Co-creation Topic Proposals is 1 July 2022.

The submission deadline for the Abstracts is also 1 July 2022, while the Paper submissions are due by 23 September 2022.

Additional information on the key topics of interest and on the submission process is available on the website (https://www.caadfutures2023.nl).
