McKim & Creed adds third RIEGL VZ-600i to mapping and survey fleet

In an investment that underscores the firm’s long-term commitment to innovation and high-quality data delivery for clients nationwide, McKim & Creed continues to strengthen its geospatial capabilities with the addition of a third RIEGL terrestrial laser scanner: the RIEGL VZ 600i. This newest addition brings expanded flexibility, performance and efficiency to the firm’s growing mapping and survey fleet.

The RIEGL VZ-600i delivers high precision and rapid data capture in complex operating environments. As an integrated, cross-platform system, it can be deployed on vehicles, boats, tripods, backpacks and bicycles, allowing a single scanner to adapt to a wide range of project needs. Managed through the VZi app, the system enables efficient platform transitions while simplifying power and cabling. Together, these capabilities provide a flexible and efficient solution for modern surveying and mapping operations.

Enhanced responsiveness

With three RIEGL terrestrial scanners now in operation, McKim & Creed continues to expand its capacity to deliver highly accurate, data-rich mapping solutions for infrastructure, transportation, water, energy and environmental projects. The VZ 600i enhances long-range scanning performance, high-resolution data capture and overall operational efficiency, supporting complex projects that require detailed three-dimensional models and reliable spatial intelligence.

According to David Jones, senior vice president of geomatics at McKim & Creed, the investment reflects the firm’s continued focus on innovation and client service. By adding the VZ-600i to its technology portfolio, the firm is increasing both capacity and flexibility while maintaining the accuracy and consistency clients rely on.

The system’s advanced waveform processing, integrated imaging and rapid acquisition capabilities enable McKim & Creed to reduce field time, improve data completeness and accelerate project delivery. Combined with the firm’s experienced geospatial professionals and established workflows, the expanded sensor fleet enhances responsiveness to evolving project demands while upholding rigorous quality standards.

Supporting complex projects nationwide

From RIEGL’s perspective, the addition of a third VZ-600i reflects McKim & Creed’s leadership in precision, efficiency and technological advancement. Tan Nguyen, senior business development manager at RIEGL USA, notes that the VZ-600i was engineered to deliver exceptional versatility and data quality across a wide range of environments, and its deployment at this scale highlights its value for organizations tackling complex, high-impact projects nationwide.

Overall, the acquisition reinforces McKim & Creed’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to support informed decision-making, manage risk and deliver dependable results across both the built and natural environments. Alongside its terrestrial systems, the firm is also employing mobile Lidar technology, further broadening its ability to capture accurate, high-resolution data in diverse settings.
