Oblique Aerial Photography Archive of European Cities

Thanks to a partnership with Blom UK, Bluesky International is now able to offer BlomOBLIQUE aerial images of hundreds of European cities, and more are being added to the online archive every month. All photographs have been taken at an angle of approximately 45 degrees which makes sides of buildings visible, thus allowing easier interpretation of the environment by non-specialist users.

Designed to complement the more traditional vertical imagery already available from Bluesky, the oblique aerial imagery provides a unique perspective by exposing hard-to-see structures and improving the 3D data experience whilst also allowing accurate measurements of features.

According to Rachel Tidmarsh, managing director of Bluesky International, the product offers a previously unseen view of European cities and perfectly complements the company's existing vertical images. The collection has a coverage of every city in Western Europe with a population in excess of 50,000 and an ongoing data-capture programme.

BlomOBLIQUE images allow a user to examine the sides of buildings, thus exposing blind spots, entrances and exits. They also improve the identification of previously hard-to-see assets and features such as lamp posts. Using a front-end web based solution, desktop Geographical Information System (GIS), mapping software or CAD application, direct measurements of assets or features can be made from the oblique images and they can be also be viewed in 3D, thus extending the more traditional 2D scope of geographical data.

Applications of the oblique images include planning assessments, risk analysis, emergency response assistance, security planning, law enforcement operational planning & response, property management, real estate visualisation, asset management, insurance risk assessment and engineering, to name but a few.

The announcement of the new collection of aerial images builds on an existing relationship between the two companies that has resulted in aerial photographs captured by some of the most prestigious names in the UK survey industry being made available to view and download from www.oldaerialphotos.com.
