Quantum Systems acquires AI firm Spleenlab to bolster autonomy capabilities

Quantum Systems has strengthened its position in AI-driven uncrewed systems by bringing Spleenlab’s VISIONAIRY AI suite and edge-perception expertise directly under its roof in a full acquisition. Quantum Systems is a European leader in uncrewed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems and autonomous solutions. Spleenlab is a German developer of artificial intelligence software for perception and autonomy.

With the integration, Quantum Systems aims to accelerate development of safer and more autonomous mission systems across air, land and maritime domains. The deal also supports the company’s broader strategy to fuse advanced hardware, software and AI into a unified technology stack that serves both defence and commercial markets.

Machine learning software

Founded in 2016 and based in Saalburg-Ebersdorf and Jena, Spleenlab is recognized for its machine learning software that enables GPS-denied navigation, multi-object detection and coordinated multi-platform operations. Its technology has already featured on Quantum Systems platforms through collaborative projects with the German Ministry of Defence and other European authorities.

Spleenlab’s team will join Quantum Systems’ AI Center of Excellence, tripling the company’s software and AI workforce. All employees will be retained, with operations in Thuringia and Jena continuing as part of the expanded group. Quantum Systems said ongoing collaborative programmes and services for the uncrewed ecosystem will proceed as planned, while the combined teams will focus on translating research breakthroughs into operational capability for customers and allied partners.
