Queensland Mandates BIM on Large Government Projects

Queensland has announced a new policy requiring Building Information Modelling (BIM) to be used on all new government construction projects with estimated capital costs over AU$50 million.

“BIM is a ‘win-win’ for designers, builders, asset managers, and all stakeholders helping us deliver the government infrastructure we all need and use,” said Cameron Dick, Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning. “It’s a collaborative and productive way of working that will help us to better design, construct, manage and operate the assets that we build. This will ultimately de-risk projects by improving their on-time and on-budget delivery, as well as reduce work place health and safety issues. Our leading approach to the digital design and delivery of Queensland’s public infrastructure is front and centre, particularly for our number one infrastructure project – Cross River Rail.”
