Remote Sensing Congress in Latin America

Between October the 4th and 8th of this year, the LARS 2010 Exploradores del Sur (Latin American Remote Sensing Week) congress is to take place in Santiago de Chile. This event will gather the most important companies and organisations dedicated to geospace sciences. The encounter pretends to become the meeting point for the scientific and academic community in the region and an opportunity to share experiences, new technologies and applied uses of this discipline.

The Chilean Air Force´s Air Photogrammetry Service (SAF), institution in charge of organising this symposium, is looking forward to stand out Chile as a referent in Remote Sensing studies. This will be a unique congress in Latin America as an International Society for Photogrammetry Remote Sensing (ISPRS) event, association in charge of promoting the cooperation between organisations dedicated to this subject around the world.

This symposium has great importance considering the circumstances that have affected Chile during the last period. After the earthquake that took place in the south-central area of this country last 27th February, the reconstruction and territory analysis tasks will be favoured by the actual applications of Remote Sensing, and LARS 2010 will be the perfect scenario to put this kind of knowledge into practice.

LARS 2010 will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Santiago, and will be sponsored by the Chilean Government, in which relevant personalities from politics, science, business and academic research will be attending. Technical sessions, specialised conferences, workshops and other social activities will take place during the symposium. The objective is to establish bonds between researchers, technology providers and users, in order to generate a community around Remote Sensing in this region. Our sponsors are Esri, Imagesat, Leica Geo System, Indra, Infoterra y la Chilean Space Agency (ACE).
