Richard Burnett New Chair of RICS Scotland Board

Having served on the Scotland Board for several years, Richard Burnett has now taken over as Chair from John Edwards FRICS (July 2019 – July 2020). Richard will continue the focus on leading the Scotland Board to help deliver the RICS business plan, driving engagement with RICS professionals throughout Scotland at this crucial time as we look to reuse, repurpose and regenerate back to a fully functioning built environment.

Richard has over 35 years’ experience as a General Practice Management Surveyor, helping with residential, commercial and retail requirements, and now specializes in resolving disputes.

On his appointment, Richard Burnett commented: “It is an immense honour and privilege to be assuming the Chair of the RICS Board in Scotland at this extremely tumultuous time.

“I must pay credit to my predecessor – John Edwards – who has had the difficult task of Chairing RICS in Scotland through the pandemic. John has worked tirelessly, often unseen to get the profession ready for the end of lockdown, and safely back to work, and I commit to carry on with this work.

Delivering positive social impact

“My focus for the year ahead will be to assist all sectors of our profession as they emerge from the pandemic restrictions. Many members have experienced hardships, and it is important that the Board in Scotland, and all at RICS are there to give support as required.”

Head of UK Professional Engagement, Victoria Hampson commented: “We are delighted to welcome Richard as our new Chair at this difficult time. Our profession has rapidly evolved since the start of 2020 and are instrumental in helping Scotland recover from the pandemic. Over the years, as a board member, Richard has demonstrated the commitment and drive we need to ensure our members are at the forefront of delivering positive social impact to their local communities, and I look forward to how he will help shape the future of our built environment as Chair.”

The role of the Scotland Board is to provide market insight and intelligence to help inform and deliver the overall strategy, to enhance the recognition and profile of RICS throughout Scotland, as well as to enhance local member engagement. The board comprises RICS-qualified professionals, led by RICS.
