RIEGL strengthens test aircraft fleet with advanced DA62 SurveyStar

RIEGL has partnered with Diamond Aircraft Austria since the inception of its Special Mission Aircraft business. It has recently acquired a new test and calibration aircraft, the DA62 SurveyStar. RIEGL is a global leader in the development and production of laser scanners and systems for surveying applications.

After successfully operating one of the very first DA42 GeoStar aircraft for nearly 15 years, RIEGL is now the first Austrian operator to embrace its groundbreaking successor, the DA62 SurveyStar. This achievement highlights the strong collaboration between RIEGL and Diamond Aircraft.

Thanks to the close cooperation between RIEGL and Diamond Aircraft, the new test aircraft is already equipped to accommodate RIEGL's complete line of high-end airborne laser scanners and systems for trial purposes.

Markus Fischer, director of Diamond Aircraft Special Mission Aircraft, said: "Besides the many already sold and delivered DA62 SurveyStars, this one is my absolute top favourite as I have known Dr Riegl since I joined Diamond Aircraft in 2006. It has always been an absolute honour and pleasure to work with everyone at RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems over the last 15 years. Having the world's most modern and state-of-the-art airborne scanner manufacturer as a partner and customer is an outstanding privilege. I am looking forward to delivering this unit personally to Dr Riegl and his team."

Dr Johannes Riegl, CEO and an enthusiastic pilot himself, commented: "After many years of successful use of our Diamond DA42 MPP for test flights, the increased development and production expansion of our range of high-end airborne laser scanners means that it is now appropriate to expand and modernize our aircraft fleet. The DA62 SurveyStar is exactly the right device to continue being at the cutting edge of technology, also in the field of aviation, for many years to come. Not to mention, I personally look forward with enthusiasm to piloting this beautiful bird myself in the future."
