Rx Networks Announces Release of XYBRID Cloud

Rx Networks, the Canada-based mobile location technology company, has announced the upcoming release of XYBRID Cloud 1.0, scheduled for release on 1 May 2013. XYBRID Cloud is a hosted GNSS that applies the power of cloud processing to determine a location even when only a few snapshots of weak GNSS signals are available.

Particularly well suited for the machine-to-machine (M2M) market, XYBRID Cloud can enable indoor devices like routers, small cells, and other infrastructure to become location-aware. Once devices know their location, this information can be used as a reference to other devices, such as smartphones for indoor positioning. By eliminating the human factor in recording the location of devices, XYBRID Cloud is a useful tool for inventory management, theft recovery, and optimisation.

With the higher power capabilities of the XYBRID Cloud servers, the service can also act as a fall-back to on-board GNSS chips when they struggle to determine a location in difficult conditions using just the device’s processor.

XYBRID Cloud is part of the XYBRID family of products and works synergistically with XYBRID RT - a Wi-Fi/Cell-ID/A-GNSS positioning service. By adding Wi-Fi or Cell-ID observations to the location request, it is possible to determine location in cases where only one or two satellites are observed, normally insufficient for a GNSS fix.

XYBRID Cloud will be available 1 May 2013 and has been demonstrated at Rx Networks’ booth at the Mobile World Congress in February 2013. The service is available for evaluation by RF front end, baseband and GNSS chipset vendors interested in joining the XYBRID Cloud launch programme.
