Siberian State Academy of Geodesy Turns 80

The Siberian State Academy of Geodesy (SGGA) has celebrated the 80th anniversary of its foundation. The official celebration took part in the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on 23 April 2013. The theatre welcomed world-famous specialists, outstanding members of the Academy and many of its graduates. The celebration was followed by the IX International Scientific Congress and Exhibition, Interexpo Geo-Siberia, which took place from 24 to 26 April 2013.

Lena Halounová, congress director of ISPRS 2016 in Prague, was the chairperson of the Novosibirsk Workshop 2013 called Global Geospatial Information on Thursday 25 April organised by the ISPRS working group IV/2. Its programme offered presentations about mapping coverage of the world, maps in Russia, map data bases in China and Czech Republic, new advances of Esri, project dedicated to smart cities in Singapore, world DEMs, etc. Organisers of all three meetings prepared both the scientific and social programme. They awarded not only outstanding members of the Academy, but also foreign participants offering them a heartfelt and pleasant environment for mutual meetings.

Lena Halounová awarded honorary membership to Prof. Dr.-Ing. mult. Gottfried Konecny for his contribution to the world development of photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial science, and his strong effort for the international cooperation, which made him one of the most important successors of Eduard Doležal in the name of the Czech Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing during the gala dinner organised by SSGA on Tuesday 23 April.

The hospitality of organisers represented by Prof. Dr. Alexander P. Karpik, Rector of Siberian State Academy of Geodesy, was much appreciated by the attendants.
