SPAR 2008, Houston, TX, USA

The 5th Annual Conference SPAR on 3d laser scanning, mobile survey, lidar, dimensional control, asset management, BIM/CAD/GIS Integration is being held from 3 to 5 March at the InterContinental Hotel, Houston in Texas, USA.

SPAR 2008 is all about new 3D data capture systems based on laser scanning, LIDAR, high-dynamic-range photography, sonar, GPS and inertial navigation technologies - and how these are challenging organisations to rethink the ways they use 3D data for efficient and safe operations.

Visitors can learn from real project case studies about the business and technology of capturing, managing and integrating 3D information, and validate new 3D technologies to enable global project execution, limit construction growth, compress schedules and improve safety.

They can see the newest 3D laser scanning and 3D imaging systems and software from the world's leading suppliers.

Chevron Global Refining's Kevyn Renner, Strategy & Planning Leader, Control & Information Systems, will deliver the SPAR 2008 Process Industry Keynote. A Mobile Survey Keynote by Chris Urmson, Director of Technology for the DARPA Urban Challenge at Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute, will detail the technology integration - 3D laser scanning, GPS, inertial measurement, real-time signal processing - that let CMU's Tartan Racing team win the Challenge's $2 million first prize. Construction Keynote Dean Reed, Lean Construction Coordinator for DPR Construction, will describe his work with project teams across the country to implement collaborative virtual building and lean construction principles and tools.
