STAR-APIC Participates in World Summit for Sustainable Cities

ECOCITY 2013, the World Summit for the Sustainable City, is being held from 25 to 27 September in Nantes, France. STAR-APIC will take this occasion to present Elyx 3D geographic information system (GIS) that is a valuable aid in the sustainable management of cities.

After earlier events in Montreal, Istanbul, San Francisco and Adelaide, ECOCITY will be held in the European Union for the first time.

The concept was originally designed to:
- Facilitate exchanges among local, regional and governmental decision-makers, researchers and the civil society,
- Bring together all the different disciplines on sustainable cities,
- Offer equal treatment to all speakers,
- Enable citizens to play a role.

This 10th edition positions the city as a key to address global sustainability issues. On this occasion, STAR-APIC will present its Elyx 3D solution, a unifying GIS for cities, urban planning, environmental agencies and engineering companies.

Currently, the simulation, urban planning and engineering tools that are essential to the sustainable management of our cities need 3D data. These tools exploit little or none of the existing GIS data and are often forced to make use of basic 3D data and to enrich them with business data. This information is neither structured nor centralised and each new study often requires complete recapture or re-keying of data.

Similarly, the results of these studies are not centralised, thus preventing data-sharing within an organisation and even between studies.

The 3D GIS, a 2D/3D data management and operation tool, offers the ability to be a unifying tool to centralise business information and the results of these environmental studies. As a result it is possible to significantly reduce costs and increase efficiency by managing, storing and sharing all available information.

Elyx 3D offers all necessary tools to centralise the storage and management of GIS data. The objective is to offer an integrated solution, Smart City Tools, to significantly improve the accessibility and performance of all applications to ensure sustainable management of the city and comfort of citizens.

A poster dedicated to Elyx 3D will be displayed in the 'Poster Gallery' and Anne-Lise Poplavsky, 3D product manager of STAR-APIC, will also be in attendance. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see demonstrations of this solution by going directly to the STAR-APIC stand. Stand No. 13 is shared with the Cenaero Research Center, which provides high-fidelity numerical simulation methods and tools to invent and design more competitive products, to companies involved in a technology innovation process.
