Sultanate of Brunei to Transform Public Infrastructure

JSY Systems, a partner of Autodesk based in Brunei, has signed an agreement with the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Ministry of Development of the Sultanate of Brunei for the project management, design, supply, delivery, installation, integration, development, testing, training, commissioning and maintenance of an Integrated Document Production System (IDPS) for the Public Works Department (PWD).

Expected to be completed by September 2007, the IDPS solution will standardise all public building design, construction and management processes, enabling Brunei to increase delivery speed, decrease costs, increase productivity and enhance the overall quality of public building construction across the country.

A crucial component of the IDPS project will be the first public sector national-level deployment of Building Information Modelling (BIM) capabilities in ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations). JSY will implement 150 seats of the Autodesk Revit Platform for BIM, including Autodesk Revit Building, Autodesk Revit Structure, and Autodesk Revit Systems software applications. JSY will also be deploying Autodesk Civil 3D software to deliver maximum accuracy and project acceleration in civil engineering works. The solution will enable 400 architects, engineers and builders from PWD to work on a single, integrated digital platform.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a technology-enabled approach towards building design, construction and management that is slowly transforming the building industry worldwide. BIM is the creation and use of co-ordinated, consistent, computable information about a building project in design. BIM helps clarify cost estimates and construction decisions; enhance performance predictions; provide high-quality construction documents, and ease facility management and operation.

The IDPS project's BIM capabilities will make Brunei the leader in the use of BIM in public building design, construction and management in ASEAN. The IDPS project and in particular, its Building Information Modelling capabilities, will raise the bar on the standard of quality of the public buildings and other infrastructure, and improve efficiency in future developments with regards to quality, cost, speed of delivery and productivity.
Other partners in the consortium include: CSC Asia for structural design, analysis and detailing; Davis Langdon & Seah for Quantity Surveying; and Asiasoft for the IDPS' Project Document Management (PDM) and Tender Collection & Submission System (TCSS).
