Tersus GNSS launches sub-kilogram RTK-SLAM 3D scanner

Tersus GNSS has introduced the MVP S1, an ultra-lightweight handheld 3D laser scanner designed for mobile mapping and reality capture applications. The device combines Lidar, vision sensors and GNSS through an AI-driven RTK-SLAM workflow, aiming to deliver survey-grade results in both GNSS-denied and open environments.

At the core of the MVP S1 is a multi-sensor fusion approach that integrates Lidar data with imagery from dual 48-megapixel panoramic cameras and GNSS positioning. According to Tersus, the system achieves centimetre-level accuracy outdoors and maintains performance indoors or underground through SLAM processing. A hardware-level synchronization mechanism, referred to as TimeSync 3.0, aligns sensor data at microsecond level, supporting consistent datasets and more reliable post-processing.

Point cloud preview

The scanner provides real-time feedback via a mobile application, allowing users to preview colourized point clouds while scanning and generate basic scan reports on site. This feature is intended to help operators verify data completeness and quality before leaving the field, potentially reducing the need for repeat visits.

Beyond point cloud generation, the MVP S1 supports 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), enabling the creation of textured, photorealistic 3D models. Tersus positions this capability for applications such as building information modelling, construction progress monitoring, underground surveys, forestry analysis and industrial site documentation. Weighing just under one kilogram, the handheld device is designed for extended field use where portability and rapid deployment are key considerations.
