Trainee Surveyors Measure Isenburg

On Friday 31 August 2012, the Isenburg ruin in Hattingen, Germany, will be the subject of thorough measuring when trainee surveyors from the Essen and Mülheim city councils join others from the surveying office Arnscheidt and DMT for a practical training session.

Trainees in the second year of their apprenticeship will be introduced to the ongoing surveying project "Isenburg ruin" by the current Year-3 apprentices before they hand it over to them. Among other things the measuring instruments in operation, plus DMT's gyroscope "Gyromat 3000" will be demonstrated and explained. The training day will also provide first-year apprentices with the opportunity to get to know one another and find out about the project, which they in turn will inherit in the following year.

This cross-company activity is a result of an integrated apprenticeship, in which trainers from Essen and Mülheim City Councils (ordnance survey) and the companies DMT (industrial surveying) and ÖbVI Arnscheidt (cadastral surveying) are able to "swap" their apprentices among themselves. The students gain an insight into further specialist topics e.g. photogrammetry and GIS through sessions at the mining museum (Deutsches Bergbaumuseum) or companies such as PLEdoc. Doing so, the trainees have the possibility to experience other areas of surveying, which they would otherwise have only dealt with in theory.

This integrated apprenticeship is also supported by the Berufskolleg Ost (vocational college) and especially by the Düsseldorf district government. Representatives from the training companies, the vocational college and the local government will also be on site at the training day to observe and assess.
