Trimble broadens Applanix line with unified land and air mapping systems

Trimble has announced two new positioning system portfolios for mobile mapping and direct georeferencing: the Applanix POS LVX+ and Applanix POS AVX RTX. Designed to meet the evolving demands of the geospatial industry, these next-generation solutions deliver high accuracy and efficiency across a broad range of land-based and airborne mobile mapping applications. Both systems were showcased at Intergeo 2025, alongside the recently launched Applanix POSPac Complete advanced post-processing software.

Both portfolios take a comprehensive, all-in-one approach to precise positioning and orientation. Each includes a one-year subscription to the Trimble CenterPoint RTX correction service and Applanix POSPac Complete (desktop and cloud), which features post-processed CenterPoint RTX (POSPac PP-RTX). By combining real-time and post-processed data, users gain access to global coverage without relying on traditional GNSS base stations – a major advantage in avoiding complications related to differing datums or epochs. The systems are engineered for optimal productivity, providing centimetre-level accuracy and incorporating Trimble IonoGuard technology to mitigate ionospheric disruptions.

“By bundling both real-time and post-processed RTX into the POS LVX+ land and POS AVX RTX air solutions for mobile mapping, these ready-to-use systems simplify procurement and enable immediate deployment,” said Steve Woolven, president and general manager of Applanix at Trimble. “These portfolios enable our customers to tackle the most complex mapping projects and ensure optimal accuracy for final deliverables.”

Land-based and airborne mapping

The Applanix POS LVX+ portfolio, available in six models, is tailored for land-based mobile mapping. Its compact, lightweight and cost-effective design, combined with rugged construction and high-quality components, makes it suitable for a wide range of users and project types. The system incorporates the Applanix IN-Fusion+ multi-sensor aided inertial engine, maintaining consistent performance even in challenging environments such as urban canyons or under dense tree canopy. The LVX+ is particularly well-suited for projects using Lidar sensors or cameras, as well as fleet management and automotive applications. Onboard and external inertial measurement units (IMUs) further enhance reliability and precision across varying conditions.

The Applanix POS AVX RTX portfolio, meanwhile, is designed for airborne positioning and orientation, with four variants supporting different flying heights and orientation accuracy requirements. The systems leverage over-the-air correction technology to achieve superior positioning, velocity and orientation accuracy – up to 0.03 horizontal metres root mean square (RMS) and 0.06 vertical metres RMS – without additional setup or infrastructure. The robust hardware includes advanced IMUs and an FAA-certified antenna and cabling, ensuring durability and compliance with aviation standards. By integrating both real-time and post-processed RTX correction data, the AVX RTX provides a powerful solution for time-critical missions, large-scale corridor mapping and operations in remote or inaccessible regions.

With these latest additions, Trimble continues to strengthen its Applanix product line, combining precision hardware and intelligent software to streamline mapping workflows across land and air applications.
