UP42 expands US and Canadian coverage through new Lidar partnership with NV5

A new partnership enables UP42 customers across the USA and Canada to access NV5’s high-accuracy Lidar datasets for infrastructure monitoring and vegetation management as well as a broad spectrum of engineering and planning applications. NV5 is a Florida-based leader in Lidar acquisition and analytics.

The agreement gives UP42 users the ability to task NV5 Lidar collections for long linear corridors, transmission and distribution networks, and local grid systems. These datasets offer detailed point clouds that quantify vegetation encroachment and measure distances between tree canopies and power lines, reducing the need for manual field inspections and supporting more efficient risk mitigation for utilities and asset operators.

The versatility of Lidar

Lidar’s versatility continues to make it a critical tool across the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) sector. High-density point clouds and digital terrain models created during early planning phases improve the precision of site assessments. When acquired repeatedly over time, Lidar data allows users to analyse ground or slope stability, detect subsidence and identify emerging hazards before they escalate. The datasets also serve as a reliable input for digital twin development, enabling the creation of accurate, physics-ready 3D models.

Unlike optical imagery, Lidar is unaffected by sunlight conditions, allowing collections at any time of day or night. NV5’s data offers vertical accuracy of approximately 10cm and horizontal accuracy of around 30cm, and can be integrated with traditional photogrammetry workflows to enhance overall spatial precision.

Earth observation ecosystem

For UP42, the partnership represents a strategic expansion of its Earth observation ecosystem. By adding NV5’s on-demand Lidar coverage across Canada and the USA, the company aims to widen accessibility to advanced geospatial data for sectors ranging from precision agriculture and climate analysis to infrastructure monitoring and disaster response. The integration aligns with UP42’s broader vision to collaborate with partners and international associations that share a long-term commitment to advancing Earth observation capabilities.

With Lidar becoming increasingly important for operational decision-making and the development of digital infrastructure, UP42’s expanded catalogue positions the company to serve growing demand for high-resolution, analytically rich geospatial datasets across the North American market.
