XEOS Imaging drives innovation with RIEGL and IGI integration

XEOS Imaging has enhanced its operational capabilities with the acquisition of the RIEGL VQ-1460 airborne laser scanning system, integrated with the IGI CCNS-5 computer-controlled navigation system. This combination of leading-edge technologies marks a new era of precision and efficiency in the company's aerial surveying operations. XEOS Imaging is a leading aerial surveying company based in Quebec, Canada.

The IGI CCNS-5, known for its advanced flight management system (FMS), integrates seamlessly with RIEGL VQ airborne laser scanners, including the VQ-1460 wide-area mapping system. This integration, complemented by the IGIplan mission planning solution, provides a comprehensive suite of tools designed to optimize flight planning and execution. For XEOS Imaging, this has resulted in increased data acquisition efficiency, reduced environmental impact and enhanced overall flight safety.

The RIEGL VQ-1460, renowned for its linear scan pattern and ultra-wide area mapping, offers a laser pulse repetition frequency of 4.4MHz and an effective swath width of 60 degrees. Capable of long-range detection up to 5,400 metres, this system ensures high collection efficiency. Operating at an airspeed of 150 knots, the VQ-1460 can survey up to 615 square kilometres per hour with an average of 8 points per square metre.

Complex surveying applications

“I am always looking for the best possible solutions for our aerial mapping needs and this combination with the great support provided by IGI and RIEGL has exceeded our expectations,” states Tony St-Pierre, president of XEOS Imaging. He views the integration of the VQ-1460’s high productivity and the IGI CCNS flight management system’s accuracy as setting the latest benchmark in Lidar collection efficiency, inspiring XEOS Imaging to adopt this sophisticated technology into their workflow.

The integration of IGI's CCNS-5 with RIEGL's Lidar scanners has proven highly effective in a range of complex surveying applications, from large-scale topographic mapping to challenging mountain surveys and low-altitude corridor mapping for infrastructure development. This technology enhances the precision and confidence with which surveyors can approach demanding projects. Industry leaders have increasingly turned to this advanced solution, recognizing its potential to drive innovation and elevate the standards of aerial surveying. As this synergy continues to gain traction, it is opening new avenues for professionals in the field to expand their capabilities.
