Maptek Releases I-Site Studio 3.5

Maptek has released version 3.5 of its laser scan modelling software I-Site Studio. The release coincides with the launch of a dedicated geotechnical module, guaranteed to have site geologists keen to try it out for mapping and analysis. While basic I-Site Studio 3.5 users can query dip and strike, the new module has more extensive tools enabling users to easily monitor changes in surfaces such as walls, batters and faces. Stereonet plots allow users to plot slope and slope direction (dip and strike) onto a two-dimensional graph, helping to identify discontinuity sets and analyse the stability of rock slopes. Contours... (read more)

Maptek Adds Value to Big Data

Ubiquitous sensors rip a deluge of data from the world around us, said spatial business industry leader Richard Simpson in his keynote address to the Maptek users conference in Brisbane. This digital content makes the intangible more tangible and vastly improves our knowledge of our world. Through this ‘reality mirror’ 3D spatial visualisation becomes a lens to reveal greater evidential qualities that can drive our decision making with higher levels of confidence, he added. Confident decision making relies on maximising the use of data collected throughout the mining value chain. This is the underlying theme of the 3-day technical conference... (read more)

Maptek to Meet with Customers in South America

Maptek, a leading provider of innovative software, hardware and services for the mining industry, will be sharing the latest innovations with customers at the XVII South America Users Conference in Viña del Mar, Chile, from 14-16 October. Since the company’s last conference, customers have faced aggressive conditions requiring them to focus on cost reduction and consolidating their resources, commented Marcelo Arancibia, vice president, South America. Standardising on a single provider like Maptek is a good way to achieve this, he continued. Developing and delivering intuitive workflows across the mining execution value chain ensures processes are not managed in isolation. Decision-makers can... (read more)

Maptek Software Used for Prestigious Infrastructure Project in Qatar

Eureka modelling software from 3D visualisation technology developer Maptek is being applied to the construction of a multi-billion transport infrastructure project in Qatar. The infrastructure project, managed by Qatar Rail, will create a rapid transit network consisting of light rail, the metro system and high-speed trains between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Qatar Rail uses Eureka to view, analyse and model regional geological and GIS data. Eureka modelling and analysis tools allows to investigate critical aspects in relation to the conditions underground and structures to be erected, said Marin Griguta, director Civil Works of the QIRP Department at Qatar Rail. Within... (read more)

Maptek Expertise and Software Captures Aboriginal Rock Art

Maptek expertise and software has played a key role in capturing and digitally preserving Aboriginal rock art in Kakadu National Park for the CyArk 500 challenge. The I-Site Studio software was used to create a 3D reproduction of historical Aboriginal rock art at the park in Australia's Northern Territory. The CyArk 500 challenge aims to digitally preserve 500 cultural heritage sites using 3D technology within the next 5 years. Elizabeth Lee, vice-president at CyArk, was thrilled to be able to include the data for Kakadu in the archive. She called it an incredible site and a fantastic example of Australia's... (read more)

New SR3 Underground Laser Scanner from Maptek

Maptek has launched its new I-Site SR3 600m range laser scanner, developed to become the mine measurement standard for underground operations, both for general underground survey and detailed geological face mapping. The SR3 follows the extra long range XR3 and long range LR3, which came onto the market in 2017. The R3 series is 30% smaller and 25% lighter, with 2.5 times faster data acquisition than the earlier I-Site 8000 scanners. Survey teams can work faster and smarter, with confidence that accurate, current topographic and volumetric data is guiding mine planning and geotechnical investigations. The SR3 laser scanner weighs 9.6... (read more)
