Georover Digital Data Tracker

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) announced its latest version of the GeoRover Digital Data Tracker geospatial software as extension or plug-in to Esri ArcGIS Desktop. The new Digital Data Tracker extension includes tools to leverage commercial global positioning system (GPS) receiver data and digital files (pictures, video clips) collected in the field from a variety of devices, automatically georeferencing this information over maps and imagery. Major new enhancements include the ability to import data from modern geotagging devices and upload geospatial data into a GPS receiver. The new extension also offers full support for importing and exporting the XML-based GPS... (read more)

Wireless 3D Motion Tracker

Xsens' MTw miniature wireless inertial motion tracker has been developed for ambulatory 3D kinematic measurements. Its wireless body-area network system will be shown for the first time at the Neuroscience 2010 conference, taking place from 13th to 17th November 2010 in San Diego. The small but accurate wireless inertial 3D motion tracker offers new possibilities for ambulatory 3D kinematic measurement systems. One of the features of the MTw is the Awinda radio protocol which ensures highly accurate time synchronisation within the wireless network, comparable to the wired measurement systems from Xsens currently in use at hundreds of research institutes around... Vessel Monitoring System for Republic of Maldives

GeoEye has entered into a contract from the Republic of the Maldives for a vessel monitoring system that is being developed for fisheries management and safety. This information services project expands GeoEye\'s expertise and presence in location-based information products and services. As part of this contract, GeoEye will build the secure infrastructure for a countrywide vessel monitoring system and supply ten Osprey Personal Tracker terminals for a trial deployment. GeoEye's vessel monitoring system will display vessel positions and consolidate fish catch reports from the Osprey terminals in near-real-time for review by fisheries management personnel at the Ministry of Fisheries and... First Black Rhinos Protected by Sensor Implants in Horns

The Internet of Life and the ShadowView Foundation have successfully implanted LoRaWAN-equipped sensors directly into the horns of critically endangered black rhinos. The sensors give park rangers the ability to accurately monitor the whereabouts and activities of the large mammals and keep them safe from poachers. The operation took place in Tanzania and is part of a LoRaWAN IoT Smart Parks solution that is rolled out in several National Parks throughout Africa. The rhino-trackers show the location of the animals within the sanctuary, providing the park’s security personnel with better actionable intelligence. The deployment in Tanzania was supported by Semtech and... (read more)

Kershner Award for Dr Huddle

The PLANS Executive Committee presented its Kershner Award to Dr. James Huddle at the IEEE/ION PLANS Symposium (PLANS) 2010 in Palm Springs, California, USA, Thursday, 6th May 2010. Dr. Huddle was recognised for his work on inertial and multi-sensor navigation and referencing systems. Over his distinguished career, Dr Huddle has performed and directed system mechanisation, analysis, evaluation, and optimisation of various multi-sensor navigation, guidance, and surveying systems. The sensors employed include inertial, Doppler radar and sonar, LORAN, Stellar-trackers, Laser and RF range and range-rate devices, EM-logs, TERCOM, NAVSAT, OMEGA, and GPS. Applications include air, marine and land navigation and referencing... (read more)

Flexible Grading System

Leica PowerGrade contains the PowerSnap concept whose central element is a docking station allowing easy and quick exchange of panels and transfer between machines. Instead of being restricted to just one dozer or grader system on one machine, now the Snap-on and Snap-off capability allows you to change from one configuration to another as the job demands. The operator simply swaps the 2D with the 3D panel or even transfers the panels between machines.   The Leica PowerGrade system is easily upgraded and fully scalable from basic 2D to full 3D capability in the same control panel - one option... Leica CAT Interfacte Module

The CI-14 CAT Interface Module from Leica Geosystems is designed to simplify and reduce cost of installation of Leica Geosystems 2D & 3D machine control systems on modern Caterpillar earthmoving equipment.   CI-14 eliminates the cost and effort of installing add-on hydraulic valves in order to control various Caterpillar K and T Series dozers and M Series motorgraders. CI-14 can be used in conjunction with laser, slope, ultrasonic or 3D GPS/GNSS as well as the Leica PowerTracker total station sensors, and adds "plug and grade" control capability to Leica PowerGrade.    Benefits of CI-14 The CI-14 module provides simple and...
